A tiny piece of life in the caldera. These miniature houses are handmade on Fogo Island, Cape Verde and inspired by the traditional homes of Chã das Caldeiras, the village built inside the crater of the Pico do Fogo volcano.
Each little house is made with local materials: a base of dark volcanic stone from the island, a hand-laid straw thatch roof, small wooden window and door frames, and a cluster of bright red seed beads on the peak. The roof rim is wrapped by hand in colorful satin cord. Some pieces are hand-lettered "FOGO" or "FOGO CV" on the roof.
Because every house is built by hand, no two are alike. Roof shape, rim color and details vary, so yours will be one of a kind.
